They mainly consume sweet potatoes and vegetables which they cook in a traditional way by using hot-fired stones put in a hole in the ground and covered by grass and leafs. The
Dani are extremely fond of body ornamentation. They decorate themselves elaborately with feathers, shells, bones and paint for ceremonies like the pig feast which makes a visit an unbelieveble experience one will never forget.

The Yali tribe lives more isolated, high up on the ridges of the Jayawijaya mountains in the south east of the valley. Yali area is thinly populated and the villages are smaller than those of the Dani and Lani. The Yali villages with their gardens are surrounded by untouched rainforest. Men hunt in the forest and the women harvest sweet potatoes and other crops from their gardens on the steep slopes. Yali, like all of the valley's tribes,

raise pigs who have a central function in religion and communal life. Yali area offers some of the most challenging and beautiful trekking with many steep ups and downs.

This trip is one of the most rewarding trips in Papua because of the breath taking views, local people and the pristine highland rainforest.
