Jayapura

Jayapura is the capital and largest city in the north east of the province Papua. Jayapura is a medium sized Indonesian town located from Humbolt Bay to Base G Beach with a population of 350,000 people. Jayapura has an anthropology museum, art shops, hotels, variety of restaurants, banks, internet cafe's and markets.

Jayapura has been build on the slope hills overlooking Humbolt Bay. Base G beach is only 20 minutes from town and the white sandy beaches of Amai are located 65 km west from Jayapura.

Jayapura has a large harbour but no airport, the airport is located 35 km to the west at Lake Sentani.

 

 

   

Lake Sentani

The Sentani tribe with settlements around Lake Sentani is the largest tribe found in the surroundings of Jayapura. The best way to visit
Lake Sentani is by motorized boat, You can visit small villages in and around the lake and see local people participating in their daily activities like fishing and making dug-out canoes or primitive art like bark drawings and small woodcarvings.

Visit the forest of the Cyclop Mountain Reserve with the highest peak at 2158 meters. Sentani has everything for further traveling to the inland such as banks, shops, markets, hotels, restaurants and the airport. A visit to the inland of Papua starts with a transfer from Sentani Airport.
